So there goes another YFC year! Our programme officially ended with a tour of the Anaerobic Digester at Symonds Farm near Bury St Edmunds. Bury YFC kindly invited us to join up with them for the tour of the digester which effectively is a ‘concrete cow’. They carefully grow and select a balanced diet for the digester, then feed it in where it is digested similarly to a real cow, which in turn produces gases to supply electricity to the local area. Operating the digester looked a meticulous operation, and it was interesting to see the whole process from start to finish.
We then had a busy social weekend to see off the YFC year! Suffolk YFC County Ball was held on Friday 9th July, and we managed to get a couple of tables together to represent Hadleigh. A few of our members then had an early start showing livestock at the Tendring Hundred Show. Well done to Alice Partridge, Josh Coe and Charlie Coe for your prizes. Saturday night was Essex YFC’s Wix party, so we ventured across the border and had an excellent night at the end of year party.
So as most of our members are now getting started with harvest, we break for summer. However during this time there is plenty going on behind the scenes to get things ready to start back in September. The programme is coming along nicely and will be on the website as soon as it’s finished, do take a look and see if there’s anything that takes your fancy! Also, if there are any Wednesdays evenings throughout summer when it’s raining, you’re more than likely to find us in a local pub. Details of socials are always on our Facebook page
